
The first camp of 40 boys commenced on 3 January 1944. It was designed to give boys ‘the benefit of a real seaside holiday’ for a week at a cost of £2/10/- ($5). Facilities were basic with cold showers, unlined, Masonite sleeping, mess huts and kitchen.
